I'm on the verge of getting a new system and I'll need a new gpu card with the rest of the upgrades as I've only got a 7800gt atm.

I'll have a dual monitor 1680x1050 setup, and was just wondering which cards will be adequate for things like cod 4/5 and multi boxing on eve online.

4890/4870 seem like very good deals atm, but I'm just wondering if they're going to be overkill?

Currently, I'm thinking about going to am3, x3 720 BE, ddr3 for the rest of my system. I toyed with the idea of i7 but thought that I would just be wasting money on power that I wont be utilising.

If I go this route then I would prefer ati card options as the am3 boards here only support crossfire, not sli, so it gives me more flexibility for future upgrades.

thanks,

It would be comfortable getting a 4890, but you have the peace of mind its going to last you, yeah you could prob get away with a 512mb 4870 or even 4850 for use right now, but in 6months time with more complex games etc they might start to struggle, with a 4890 you know youre set for a good 2-3 years. Though your other option would be to get a cheap 4850 or something then upgrade in 6months when the new range of DX11 cards are out, thats your alternative, personally Id just get the 4890 now
