What's stopping my overclock?

Hey all,

Just tried to overclock my e2180 without much success. lol. It'll do 2.70GHz, but the RAM will only run around the 670MHz mark if I have the CPU set to this. If I raise the divider the RAM goes through the roof, and Windows will bluescreen on startup. I think the actual RAM is limiting me, but im not sure.

My spec is: e2180 w/ Arctic Cooloing Freezer 7 Pro, Gigabyte P35C-DS3R mobo, 2Gb Geil Black Dragon 800MHz, Inno3D 8800GT OC.

Any ideas?

It seems you are using the wrong divider OR you should relax thr ram timmings until you have a stable overclock then sharpen the ram timings

Hmm, well that chips good for 3Ghz on stock vcore 99% of the time, whats CPU-Z reading the vcore when compared to VID reading taken from CoreTemp?

Hey, I've backed off to 2.6GHz now to give some more stability, RAM is running at about 780MHz now. CPU-Z reports Vcore as 1.264V.

Tbh, this is my first overclock, so any advice is very welcome. I've checked out the stickies and followed them, but I must be doing something wrong!

Give us a bit more info mate.

What's your vcore?
What divider are you on? Set it to 1:1 (thats 2 in the Bios) as a starter.

Better still post what CPU-Z looks like on the CPU and Memory tabs.

your chip should do much better - my 2180 posts at 3.9, and is stable at 3.4..

Set your vcore to 1.4 (it'll be less after vdroop), up the fsb voltage and the southbridge by 0.1/0.2, and then set fsb to 320.. with a ram divider of 2.4, your ram should be at pretty much stock speeds.

You may also need to up the ram voltage - most new DDR2 modules need 2.1V to do the advertised timings, but most boards have a default of 1.8V - up the ram voltage by 0.3 :)

Don't be worried about upping your voltages, just keep an eye on your temps.. I've had 1.43 vcore through my chip when I had an AC7pro like yours :)

I'm on water, but it's crap water - my temps are no lower than when I was on my AC7pro.

Anywho, this is becoming a thread hijack ;)

my Vcore is set at 1.45 for 3ghz. So try upping your vcore to 1.4 or somthing. Also try loosening the timings to 5-5-5-17. Is what i use with GEIL ULL
