Seriously, I dont understand, the first half-life is a classic, everyones loves it, it was a huge hit, half-life 2 was amazing, episode 1 and episode 2 was amazing, so why the long wait for episode 3?

It's like they've fallen in love with making left 4 dead and portal games which are both great, but surely they can multitask and start building episode 3? I bet there's millions of people waiting for this game, I just read a sticky on offical forums over 500 pages and people have been waiting for years in that sticky lol, they're still talking there today.

But seriously, I dont understand because I'm sure episode 3 would be a huge hit and make them lots of money?

They're taking their time to make sure it's up to their extraordinarily high standard. It'll be ready when they're happy with it.

They've more than one dev team, they're always multitasking. While I'm sure they'll move more people onto a particular project in the time drawing up to it's release, HL3/Ep3 will still be being worked on, along side other projects.

I'd much rather wait and have it be as good an experience as HL2 was on release, than have them release it before they're satisfied with what they've done. In fact, I'd much rather more AAA developers took this approach and actually made AAA titles.

I worry that they've just not been working on it at all, or that it is no way near as complete as peeps think, assuming it's been tested tested tested. I worry that for what ever reason it's kind off fallen off Valves radar and that we're in for a very long wait indeed. Maybe Valve don't have the massive finances/staff etc that we think to even get the ball rolling atm?
I know there was the issue with the sc of hl2 being pinched by some oik causing delays there but even so, how long before after the game was announced and the first screens appear did the game actually come out? Same with ep1 and 2?

I hope I'm wrong
I hope we will see EP3 or HL3 this side of 2013
I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams.
I hope.

It's the title that causes threads like this to pop up regularly all over the internet.

What will people wait for once they release it???

Yeah same here, I'm worried it will never get made...does anyone actually have any info if they have started on it yet?

I'm also really worried it won't get made. I mean our Prime Minister came out today and said we need a United States of Europe and a one world banking system like the Nazi's wanted, but I'm still really worried about HL3.

I think its mainly because @ Valve people don't get given specific projects, they can work on whatever they want to work on and wherever they feel they can add the most value. Just looks like they are more excited by other projects than by another HL sequel.

The day Valve release a game ending with "3", hell will freeze over.

They'll release Left 4 Dead 3 and everyone will go mental! LMAO!!! :p

In all seriousness though, that is very likely, because they've done really well with Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 so I can see 3 coming out in 2012 easily. And then Portal 3 also.

One day I'll be 70 and I'll say to my grandchildren! "damn valve! damn Gabe! where the hell is my episode 3!!!" and then the kids will just lock me up thinking I've lost my marbles lol.

Valve really, really want to out-do 3DRealms, but they know they have a long way to go to steal that crown.

Is this true? Source? Fairly sure Valve have project teams like most other developers. Operating like that would just be massively inefficient for any company. People will move projects when needed, but I doubt individual designers and developers are able to just pick and choose what they work on.

I doubt Valve have forgotten about Half-Life, regardless of them having other side projects, I'm sure gabe realises that Half-Life is their flagship title, hence why anything less than perfect won't be enough for them, especially if it does turn out to be on a new engine. Heck, I bet he gets enough emails daily reminding him about it from impatient fans. :p
