Whats taking so long with episode 3?

ep3 is a lost cause, im waiting for HL3 on a brand new engine... and to avoid all the over hype i think they will come along to some event and say "yep its coming out next week"... and then it will and then the world will be good again... thanks how it will happen, honest :)

I honestly think that they've written themselves into a corner with the story.

As the series has gone on there has been more of a narrative and more "key" characters and interactions all hinting at something big.

The two main problems are, firstly, I don't think even valve know what the big link between all the plot elements is going to be yet - it's been put on a pedestal (all this talk of aperture, black mesa, g man, advisors, vorts etc). Second, they have a silent protagonist, this can't make things easy when every other character talks chats away, explaining plot points, yet the main man can't ever be a part of it.

Combat was never the important thing to me in HL, it kind of got in the way of me enjoying the atmosphere, storyline, and scenery :D

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing properly. Especially HL.

Valve have been busy bees over the last few years - nurturing Steam and it's associated IP.

Did anyone else go to the BAFTA Duke Nukem Forever Q+A with John Romero earlier this year? Somehow the EP3 question was raised and he said that as far as he was aware, no one in the industry had even had a whiff that production had started... *insert moment of eiree silence*.

Have Valve ever said that they were working on it? I think that the episodic format they used has left people assuming that a third or final act was soon to be on the horizon.

Perhaps they are waiting for a hardware generation refresh? Also keep in mind that Steam is now becoming more and more tied in with Mac and PS3 - perhaps this may have some bearing on it's development roadmap.

Mark Laidlaw has always stated that he likes to leave things fairly open ended and is hesitant to commit too much to the HL cannon as he himself is never 100% sure the direction the story arc will take.

Narratively speaking it will be interesting to see what happens with the next installment, assuming that it will be revolve around the Borealis in the Arctic - which characters would be there?

Meh. HL2 was Meh, HL-Eps1 was MEH. HL-Eps2 was actually good. Surprised anyone even cares anymore tbh.

Oh and Terminal Velocity f t w.
