Hi All I don,t want to sound dumb ..but what is the advantage of getting a Blu Ray player/ Recorder over a standard player/ recorder ? I must be missing something as i,m not that well up on Blu Ray any views ?

With a bluray disc they offer 25GB for single layer & 50GB for dual layer rewritable disks for recording.
Most can be rewritten up to 1000 times without loss of quality.

Do you do a lot of recording to DVD as it is? Do you plan to?

I don't really see the use of DVD/BR recorders to be honest - why not just get a decent PVR?

yeah this is my dilema i don.t really record off the t.v on dvd but i watch Blu Ray films on my p.c , so i,m sort of looking at a Blu Ray player only ,as i have a dvd recorder which is hardly used as a recorder :)

Can't mention names,but I bought a three pack of Panasonic 25gb rewritable for £20.
Got a twin pack of Panasonic rewritable 50GB from a known well site for £15.

You can get use once record bluray discs, so be careful, just google, others on here will know more than me.

It really comes down to what the OP wants to record. TV programmes, home made movies, etc, and whether or not he wants to distribute that to other people or players on disc. BD will obviously hold a lot more than DVD, but if the OP wants to lend discs to other people, they would also need a BD player. Distributing home videos for eg, would be far easier with DVD, as it is much more common.

If it just to record TV shows to watch on the one player, then a HD PVR would be cheaper.

Edit: I didn't read the OP's post above! :o

I will answer as if this is a serious question:

It seems you want to watch BD on something other than your PC. Buy a BD player if you have a HDTV and want to watch HD films. You have a DVD recorder already (which is what you're classing as a standard player), so you don't need another standard player.

Are you actually recording?
