Whats the best 500W+ PSU? Need help

Was going to get a Hiper Type-R 580W Modular PSU, but after reading a lot of posts about many of them dieing pretty quick some taking other components out with them aswell, i decided i need to reconsider so please tell me what you this the most stable and reliable PSU is which is 500W+ will go up to £80 for it (modular would be extremely handy)
was thinking OCZ ModStream 520w (with 620w peakload) or the OCZ GameXStream 600w (not sure if this is modular :( )

Needs to be very stable and able to get some good juice flowing as i dont want my upcoming rig to die due to a bad psu, Please post some opinions.

Thanks in advance!

What sort of system will the PSU be powering? If you are going for a basic word-processing machine(I'm assuming not but ....) then 500w is more than likely overkill.

Given the budget I'd suggest either an Enermax Liberty 500w or a Tagan 530w Easycon PSU. I don't think I'd personally bother about the OCZ although it would more than likely be fine anyway.

Umm heavily Overclocked Core2Duo (perhaps using Phase on it, if my Source pulls through with it  ) umm probly a DS3 something along that, a x1900Xt perhaps umm 2gb geil, say 2HD's soundcard all that a pretty good gaming machine!

Well since I have the OCZ Modstream 520W with modular cables, I'll give you my review.

It arrives in a nice box, has 3 year warranty. The box contains the power supply which is slightly larger than your average standard power suppl. It has a nice black chrome finish, nice style. Comes with active PFC. It was a hard job getting it into my case due to it being slightly larger hence the reason I am waiting for some oppinions on the thermal take soprano. Anyway the modular cables make it look really high tech. They are quite thick compared to wires however they are a lot neater and tidier. Has a blue neon glow in the power supply which glows quite well, not too bright and not too dim. Nice finish. Im running it right now and I haven't had any problems. Just remember don't have a mini-tower case. Or a small case as it can be hard to get in and hard to get it shut with the modular cables.

Thanks im thinking of something along the lines of a Armour or something big like that so space should be fine :) thanks a ton and yeah read your thread!

I switched to Corsair HX520W after my Tagan EasyCon 530W died in about 6 months. I couldn't be happier with my choice -- it's quiet, rails are rock solid, ribbon style of modular cables are flexible and easy to route, and best of all, it has 5 years of Corsair warranty.

I would stay away from OCZ Modstream if I were you. You can check out their support forum on the problems people are having with it http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=56

The GameXstream, based on the FSP design, is a much more solid unit than Modstream.

Some of those could be faulty units, not installed properly or not correctly set.

Im running it now and its running fine. Also if you go to most support forums you will find that most of the page is occupied by that, so that doesn't justify anything.

Go to Steampowered.com forums and take a look. What do you expect on a support forum? threads of "yeah its working perfectly I don't need help at all just posting here for the sake of it". Support forums are for people posting a problem they are receiving with the hardware/software they have purchased. It doesn't have to be the actual PSU's fault it can be user fault or the psu fault.

If you read the OCZ support threads, you will find most people are having the PSUs popped in ~6 months of usage.

p.s. Aren't you having issues with your computer restarting in games? It might be a long shot, but you might want to check out your +12V rail reading to make sure it's not dropping below the regulation during load.

I searched the web for feedback on all the main PSUs before deciding on the Enermax Liberty 500w for my new conroe rig (in sig). It's modular, silent, and has a nice shiny black finish (which matches my case :)).

Another vote for the Enermax Libertys. I have a 620 in my rig, its perfect for what I need and modular cables are so damn usefull.

Well it's a bit over your budget but I got the Antec Titan 550 Tower Case - 550w TruePower PSU and I love it. The case is beautiful and the PSU is working smoothly.

The airflow in the case is keeping everything nice and chilly especially my harddrives. They had been getting up to 50C in my old case but now they're place in front of the two extra front fans and they're staying around 25-30C. CPU is running at around 40C with an akasa fan.

It's also large enough to take ATX2 spec motherboards so if you ever decide to upgrade to a dual or quad processor system it can fit it in just fine :)

Space for 6 harddrives and 4 DVD bays. Might be a bit big to be moving around a lot but it's got everything you'd need.

It's £113 incl VAT but well worth it.

I have an Antec TrueControl 550w in my old rig (3.4Ghz P4/6800Ultra) and it's been rock solid for over 2 yrs. The rails are still exactly the same as the day I installed it, great PSU.
