It's all a matter of opinion, what one person finds fun others will not. Just go to mmorpg.com or something, go through the list of games, and try a few of the free ones out and judge for yourself.

Well Guild Wars is free of subscription fee's you just need to buy the game which you can pick up for like £10 these days. Also lots of expansions for it

Thing is, most of the 'free' ones have ingame item-shops that you have to spend real money to buy stuff from, but they're usually done so that you need to buy stuff from it to get anywhere in the game.

You could try Anarchy Online, which is pretty decent, but really looking old now. Paid for with ingame ads on billboards.
