Spec me a SFF for ~£335

*updated due to change in circumstances*

Hi guys i was wondering if you could help. I am upgrading purely for gaming at 1920x1080 as bf3 and more recently planetside 2 just aren't running smoothly enough.

To free up some funds i have sold:
  • Lian Li Pc60
  • core 2 duo e8500
  • 4gb ram
  • p35 mobo

This has added about £130 to my earlier budget but has got me thinking about being a bit more sensible at the same time.

So far i have purchased.
  • Silverstone Sugo Sg01
  • 120gb OCZ Vertex 2 (;))
and will be keeping:
  • OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU
  • Seagate Barracuda 1TB sata drive
  • LG DVD-RW
  • Sapphire HD6870

Now i am left needing to get a motherboard/processor/ram & the NT06-E heatsink if it is to come back in stock here.

So what i now ask is what would you guys recommend i do if i was to go down the buy now pay in X months route but essentially have 70% of it paid for up front. Will it be worth getting the 3570k? I'm not sure the heatsink/psu fan combo is going to be up to much. I've had a look at the ASRock z77 Pro4-M but if overclocking it out of the cards i may as well go to H77 and add some more ram.

So what would you guys recommend for the magic over £334 budget (and as few £'s over as possible). This can include sensible accessories such as http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-261-SV

Personnaly i would go for intel and get a 3570k setup, perhaps getting a mobo from the clearance section will free up the pennies required.
If you cant get an SSD right away then save up there dropping in price almost daily at the moment.

As to the cooler i put the PSU in the wrong way up during one of the many failed cable management games i have played with the SG05 and the temps were still ok up to 4.2Ghz in basically fanless operation. Whilst it is true that the chip temps on IVY tend to be hotter than previous chips they generate much less heat for dissipation due to the lower wattage so you would likely be ok running passive with the NT06-e.

I had this case for ages, loved it at the time, but basically the cooling was a nightmare. I was using the NT06-E, take the shroud off and flip it then you can stick a fan on underneath and use push pull using the PSU fan too. That helped me run a Q6600 clocked to 3.2Ghz without any issues. But the rest of the cases cooling is a bugger with all those 80mm fans and cabling is a total nightmare. Think very carefully before you start building. As much as I loved the case im very glad im not using it anymore.

As to the rest of the questions get the best system you can afford is always my advice, I would be looking 8GB of RAM and whatever else you can get. TBH though personally I wouldnt run finance for some PC parts.

Well the finance deal essentially gives me a ~£100 better spec for the cost of £129 if i read the print correctly. It isn't something i'd take on lightly but i'd be front loading it with the cost of an i3 build really. I know in the time between i would be unlikely to spend 6-8 months saving up for a better cpu. If the push/pull solution is easy enough then that might just sway me into the 3570k as it is going to give my system a bit more longevity.

I'm hoping the cabling isn't going to be too bad as i won't need the standard hard drive cage which should free up some space at the front/bottom for excessive cabling. Thanks for the heads up though :)

Ok. so i originally got myself:

i3 2100
8gb ram
120gb vertex 2
gigabyte b75 mATX motherboard

and have now ordered the i5 3570k. hopefully it'll survive at stock speeds on the stock cooler until i can get hold of the NT06-E from somewhere.
