What's the best case for this build ?

Build is as follows :

Asus Maximum Formula X38
QX9650, probably be lightly overclocked to 3.6.
Tuniq Tower
4x1gig Crucial Ballistix 8500
Sapphire 3870X2
Coolermaster 850w modular psu
2 x Samsung 1tb drives
DVDRW

I would hope to add another 3870X2 once ATI have the drivers out and assuming the X38 supports it. So the case has to be able to cool the gpu's well. Budget up to 180 sterling for case and fans.

I was thinking the Akasa Eclipse 62 with the sidepanel/fan. Fit 3x1200rpm scythes. However I think the cpu socket on the x38 mobo might be pretty high up, forcing me to fit the Tuniq blowing upwards towards psu, rather then have it blowing out the back of the case (tuniq mounted longest side facing back of case). Anyone care to comment ?

Any better alternatives out there ?
Oh..hate windows, don't like bling.

Yes,
I was considering the A16B allright....and maybe adding another one of those removable bays for twice the cooling. I did read a few reviews about the cables for the power switch/leds being a bit short though. It's about the only Lian Li that appeals to me. Most of the others have doors which I hate :)

PLENTY of room for a Tuniq in an Akasa Eclipse to face it towards the back of the case......... Its *HUGE* and spacious...:D

Are you sure mate. It's not a question of the case being huge, it's a quesiton of the positioning of the cpu socket on the mobo. I had an Eclipse before, and fitted an Abit 680i mobo (can't remember model no) and tuniq. The tuniq was so wide when it was facing rear case fan (mounted length ways), that the side of the tuniq was hanging over the top of the mobo. When I slid the mobo tray back in the tuniq was actually rubbing against the underside of the the psu cage. Had to bend in the little metal hooks (usually used for hanging that extra hard drive bay). So I guess the problem was that the cpu socket was positioned to high. I hope it's not the same with the Maximus formula.

By the way, wrong forum to ask, but does anyone know if the tuniq has any clearance issues with the maximus formula nb heatsink ?

Griff...I really don't like thermaltake stuff..I know it does the job and cools really well...but it's too bling for me, and I hate windows with a passion. Sorry :)

no worries mate.....was just my opinion.... ;)

Lian Li A10 (ATX Mid-tower) or A71 (full EATX tower).

On the Silverstone side, you have the TJ09 and TJ10.

You'll do well with any of these cases, and avoiding the bling Thermaltake stuff is a very wise move.

Was considering the Silverstones mate, but after reading some recent reviews on the TJ10 and some users comments on these forums who had the TJ09, I am not sure the price is worth it. I can't see it doing anything better then the much cheaper CM 690 in terms of cooling, other then being built better and that gpu fan is supposed to be loud and difficult to replace.

Had the A10 before. Nightmare to fit tall coolers over the top exhaust fan being so near. Just about managed with an Scythe Ninja.

Will check out the A17. Is it a bit unbalanced with 4 intakes and only 1 outtake. Not counting the top outtake as it's for drive cooling and removed from rest of case.

If your only looking for ~3.6ghz why go for the qx9650?

Get a q9450 and a good watercooling setup instead - the WC can last several builds/upgrades wheras the cpu will depreciate terribly - once nehelam is out it'll be worth less than a third of its current price.

As for the case its always down to personal preference, but you cant go wrong with eclipse (or the new omega variant coming soon), or a coolermaster stacker. Both nice size cases that adapt to whatever you throw at it.

Because it's an ES which cost me exactly squat :D

Watercooling is nice, but don't have the balls yet.

A mate of mine said he will cut a hole in side of Eclipse for a 200mm Antec big boy :)

Personally I'd sell the ES and get a q9450 and use the remainder to substidise the other components :D

Don't bother with the 200mm fan - its not really that good, if it comes with your case thats one thing, but good 120mm/140mm fans are a better solution really.
