Hello,

mobo is DFI DK 790GX-M2RS and the rest of the system as per sig. My question is what is the best cpu I could get if I am to keep the mobo and whether it is worth it, what kind of performance increase am I going to see?

I think my mobo can go up to am2+ but can't see all the details as the dfi website keeps crashing on me when I try to see the cpu support details.

So what are the opinions? Am I going to see any decent improvement by changing the cpu or should I change mobo+cpu altogether?

Your motherboard has the 790GX chipset and the SB750 southbridge which should support all the current AM3 CPUs. However, since DFI left the motherboard business they probably have not released any recent BIOS updates.

This is the official CPU support list for your motherboard which does not list any Athlon II and Phenom II processors:

Having said that there seems to be information that indicates that many socket AM3 CPUs are supported:

Thank you both for the useful info. Unfortunately the dfi website crashes for me so I'll have a look at it later from another pc.

Excellent info though, exactly what I was looking for ;)

cheers
