Somewhere in the middle.
I bought this a long time back and dont remember anything about pcs these days.

Its an xp2500 on a dfi lanfinity board or summin. It can run at 3200 speeds occasionally.

Without changing board etc, what is the better chips for this thing?

same board as me, you can run any Socket A chip in that, i pushed my cpu to 2500mhz which is way above 3200 speeds.

have a look around for some good clocking Athlon-m chips, try ebay. you'll be surprised at what you can get for cheap if you're happy with staying 32bit.

Yeah look for an XP-M 2500+ or XP-M 2800+. Most will do atleast 2.4Ghz with decent cooling and some pc3200.

indeed, my mate bought a 3000+XP-m for £48 a cpl of months back, clocked to 2.66 or so on air, was well impressed :) , got a bit toasty at that speed, but bargain for the price at the time and even now for someone who doesnt want to upgrade everything else.

Sounds like a plan.

I have a 6800gt graphics card and yeah i can play CSS perfect etc. i only have a 17" monitor so 1024x768 is fine for me..

i just think a bit more cpu power might be nice

i have a 6800GT too ;)

a good idea might be instead of "wasting" money on a new chip if that one will do 3200 speeds buy yourself an Asrock conroe AGP/PCIe board and an E6300

that will set you back £150 and put you straight on the ladder for upgrading to conroe without buying a whole new system :)

thats if you plan to upgrade any time soon as you say you want more cpu power :)
