as in title, i think my router is slowing my internet down, and im after a new one, old one is a linksys WRT54G, money isnt a problem really. Must have wan option.

why do you think the router is slowing everything down? For a fair bit of money a Cisco 871 is a great router if you have decent networking knowledge. May be several things slowing down the traffic though, busy times shaping etc :)

The linksys is a good router, if you have a good reason to think it's the problem then speak to the manufacturer about it. best that money can buy, well without going completely crazy a cisco 1800 series with a ADSL wic i suppose...

A few people are recommending Cisco's (Which is fair enough as you did ask for the best) but I'd steer clear unless you are familar with IOS. Otherwise, doing the simplest things will take ages!

That being said, you can pick up 837's (That's the one I'd go for really want one) for under £100 on a major auction site.

Personally I'd plump for a netscreen 5GT ADSL Wireless. Cost you 500+ quid depending on options. Its an enterprise class small office firewall with built in wireless and ADSL modem. Far far easier to configure than a CISCO router via the web GUI, and in my opinion is a far far better firewall than a CISCO PIX that is in a similar class. Dont get me wrong I aint saying it will be easy for you, but I am sure if you know a bit about computers and can read the manual you could sort it out. There is even a version with built in trend AV filtering.

Seconded. I've got a 5GT ADSL Wireless myself at home (got it for free from work) and it's great. ScreenOS 5.4 is out tomorrow with policy based routing which is very cool - I have a beta of it installed and currently I've got certain traffic routed out via my cable and some other traffic going out via my ADSL. Not quite load balancing but it's exactly what I want and helps me use my two connections pretty effectively :)

Can also get AntiSpam and Deep Inspection licenses too. NetScreens rock.
