I used to be a huge fan of the Geoff Crammond F1 series on PC, but haven't played one for quite a while.

Anyway, now that the F1 season has started gain I really fancy playing an F1 game on PC again (played through F1CE on PS3 last year). I want to know which is the best mod for the latest season at the minute.

Should I get 'F1 Challenge 99-02' or 'Grand Prix 4' ?

What's the best F1 resource website?

Cheers ;)

mm tuff one i have both but must say grand prix 4 is still the best for me i love replays and it's great on grand prix 4 > by the way if you have played F1 on the PS3 then it will seem like your going 10 mph when going back to grand prix 4 :)

Yeah I know what you mean, the PS3 version did have a real feeling of speed and being on the edge of your seat. I have never been into console F1 games but this one was really good.

Buy Rfactor: www.rfactor.net

Enjoy :D

I used to love playing Gp4 and F1 Challenge, but no matter what mods they bring out it just feels to dated to me.

I would play Rfactor if it was a completed game, i.e. had a full season etc.

If you download say the new MMG 2007 mod, you can also download the f1 tracks (theres some crackers out there) and make your own custom full season.

nope relinquished at the end of last season, dont know if anyones working on anything though

would be nice to see it return to PC

Ok, I have downloaded the rFactor timed demo and whilst it looks pretty decent, it still looks very complicated. I can't be bothered with trying to build my own championship etc. I really just want to be able to run a mod and then play through the game - maybe I should GP4 another go!

Well according to a recent interview with a guy from EA, they said they would love to make an F1 game but Sony own the rights for a further couple of years. I will try to find the source.

Any F1 games for 360 ? iv got PGR4 and Forza 2, but id love a total simulation F1 kind of thing on the 360, would be ace with the steering wheel.

Yes, there was:

Pretty crap though by all accounts.

As much as it pains me to say this, looks like EA are in talks to get the franchise following their deal with Lewis Hamilton.

the contract with sony expired end of the last season, whether or not there was an extension is anyones guess, but i imagine some sinful firm like EA will pluck it up given the chance, it does play right into their EA Sports annual update regime afterall

Thinking about this myself at the mo. I used to download the Grand Prix 4 mods and they are terrific, as the cars are very detailed and hi res. Plus its very simple to do, which is one of the things putting me off Rfactor. It just all looks like such as hassle!

Adding mods or tracks is quite simple in rFactor.

Most tracks are just dropped into the locations folder.
Mods can also just be dropped into the vehicle folder.

Some mods and tracks use exe files and these just need pointing to the game and it will do the work for you, you can also just direct it to an empty folder then just drag and drop the files in the correct folder yourself.

There are other mods that do require a little bit of work such as the reelfeel mod for a different type of force feedback.

There is also a radio/spotter mods which was needs a few mouse clicks and the same applies to a graphic overlay mod that gives it the F1 look.

There are also mod managers that can be used but I prefer to do it myself.

I haven't tried to make championship so I carn't comment on how hard that is to do.

The biggest downside to rFactor for me is that the AI can be awesome one day and complete idiots the next.

If you do take the time to learn the ways of rFactor you can apply the same procedures to GTL, Race07 and GTR1 and 2 as they all use much the same layout with slight file name changes.
