Whats the best PC8500 ram??

Or is there something else I could use that would give me higher FSB's??

Currently Using Geil PC6400 Ultra Low latency, just wondered if the PC8500 or better is worth trying for higher overclocks??

Looking at Corsair and the OC Z PC9200 reaper stuff... Worth a go??
 
The PC8500 Crucial Ballistix seems to be clocking the best.

But you only 'need' PC8500 if you've got a high clocking E6300 or E6320.
 
I'm just wondering whether or not the PC8500 will help with higher performance at the settings I currently use.. It seems the dividers that I can use over spec my memory somewhat...

Also been testing it a bit and it seems to get a bit 'funny' with Core Temp and CPU-Z... they both seem miles out when it comes to reporting the speed of the CPU??
 
Changing the multiplier will confuse CoreTemp.

Do you have SpeedStep (if Intel) or Cool'n'Quiet (if AMD) enabled?
 
hmm i thought the faster the ram the tighter the timings you can set at lower speeds.

I have a Conroe E6600 with a Abit AW9D-Max at the moment... I think the speed step is enabled.. Should this be turned off??

I'm just looking to maximise the performance from my system at the moment....
 
It's upto yourself.

If you want to take advantage of SpeedSteps power savings then leave it enabled. If you're not worried then disable it.

I use Boinc which keeps the CPU under a full load all the time. Only when I tell is it not ever under 100% load..

I have tried maxing out the FSB but I get a bit of stability problems as it doesnt report things right in CPU-Z or Core Temp that I use..

I have managed to overclock the CPU to 4.05Ghz but that was managed by 446x9 (if I recall correctly...) using a 1:1 divider and a 1333 strap.. I think the memory did limit the overclock, as it does appear to have a few problems around that speed.. Maybe I should put more voltage through it, but I didnt like to go past 2.4V...

That's REALLY fast! :cool:

Have you tried loosening the latencies to see if the memory will run better than 446? Also, is the Geil Micron based or other ICs? If it is anything other than Micron D9s, it most likely has onboard voltage regulation which means much of anything over about 2.1v is just going to be converted to heat.
 
It certainly did ok :) It did manage Super Pi 1.5 (I think just at the 1 million count mind, but thats all I wanted at the time!! :lol:) but I dont think it would manage much else.. I've been able to bench between 3.8ghz and 3.9ghz but its been a bit unstable to say the least :(

I figured with better cooling and memory, I might be able to make that stable :) No the memory wasnt Micron D9 :(
