Need to know/provide the model number & or name of the mobo?

Depends heavily if that board can take conroe or not.

If it can't then something like the Pentium 4 D 915 (2.8ghz) overclocked would be good however if it can take conroe the absolute best cpu (at stock) available at this very moment is the X6800 conroe.

However the best price vs performance is either the E6300/6400 (2mb cache) or the E6600 (4mb cache).

how can I find out what the PCB revision is?

On Asus boards it's usually printed on the PCB in white, somewhere between the expansion slots. On my A8N-SLi Premium it's just next to the "A8N-SLi Premium" text on the board in a small font and is located between the two PCI-E slots.
