What's the best solution?

Hey all,

I want to be able to watch all my videos on my TV and I'm trying to decide what the best solution is...

I'll start by giving you a run-down of my current setup...

I have a MacBook Pro and an iPad as my two main devices that I use in my house... I currently have an NAS with 2x1TB hard drives, running in RAID0 filled with movies and tv shows that I've ripped.

They're all organised perfectly and I use XBMC on my MacBook or iPad (I'm jailbroken) to watch on. It's not too bad on my MacBook, but it isn't the best scenario to watch a movie on my iPad.

Now I'd like to be able to watch my movies on my TV. In the past, I've connected my MacBook Pro to my TV through Thunderbolt port to HDMI and watched it like that. It's a bit of a fiddle everytime, so I'd like something a little more "permanent". Something where I can sit down, turn my TV on and go.

Really I need an iTV - but that is but a mere rumour for now :p

So I was wondering what the best solution for this would be?

I've thought about having another computer connected to the TV - but you'd have to turn it on each time etc. I'm looking for a really simple solution, where I can turn the TV on, and it's as simple as deciding what to watch :p

Any thoughts?

Yes, find a way of moving from RAID0 for your NAS - you are doubling the chance it will die for no advantage (all current HDDs will saturate Gbit ethernet).

I do know this - I had it in RAID1 but had to take it off as I didn't have enough space. I'm taking the risk until I have enough money to buy more hard drives. I'm hoping to finally have 2x2TB in RAID1 - but for now this is fine.

Any thoughts on the actual issue at hand? :p

I don't think he's saying that you should RAID1. He's saying that you'd be better off running your drives as JBOD rather than RAID0. RAID0 isn't a configuration you want to use for NAS, it's basically putting you in a situation whereby if either of your drives fail then you'll lose everything. It's like the opposite of what you want to do.

Re: the main topic - maybe consider a WD TV Live?
