Whats the best value for money/punch per pound cpu for gaming at the moment? I currently have a Amd 3500 64bit (winchester) and am looking to upgrade, motherboard too if needs be. Cheers

well on socket 939 the 3800+ (X2) is good, ordering myself one soon hopefully, also the 4000+ is a good deal at a shave over 100, both should overclock with decent cooling :p

yes it depends how much you want to spend and whether you will be overclocking it ?

but as already said, the x2 3800 at just over a ton is an absolute bargain

All the 939's seem to be excellent value now.

I've gone for the OEM 4000+ @ £82 for my gaming rig as dual core doesn't really have much effect in games atm.

Hoping for 2.8 - 3.0Ghz when clocking it, so it'll be a nice boost for me. :p

I'd probably go dual core at this point

The 1MB cache CPUs are the ones to go for as they're quicker clock for clock than the 512KB cache CPUs. I'd get an X2 4400+ or 4800+ as they've just had their prices slashed

Both should clock to FX60 speeds (2.6GHz)

I was thinking of grabbing this in place on of my venice, let me know how your clocking goes, if it'll do 2.8 - 3.0 i'll proberly get one.

I got a few of the 4000's, all are kab1e, only had time to try this one. 3.0ghz occt stable.

It depends what chip (and graphics card) you already have to whether you'll actually see a big improvement.

But every little helps as they say, and at current prices there's no reason not to upgrade.

I have an xp-90c with a panaflo on it, load temps are 45 degree at the moment, bit hotter in the day with this heat.

Well it depends on what graphics card u have, no point buying a new CPU if your using an older GPU as most games wont run any quicker.

Excellent, I have the non-c XP90 and a panaflo, and my chip should be arriving today :D

Shame my ram isn't likely to go above 230fsb at 1:1 :(

Just use a divider to get higher, amd64's see little performance drop using dividers and the gain will be far greater :)
