What's the best way to clean the screen of a TFT monitor?

DO NOT - I REPEAT - DO NOT USE A DAMP OR WET CLOTH!!!!

Best thing to use (if you haven't got any specific TFT screen wipes) is a soft, dry, clean cloth. In theory (unless you've sneezed or spat food/drink all over it) it should only be dust you're removing. A dry cloth gently wiped over the front is perfectly sufficient for removing loose particles. Don't apply too much pressure to it either - gently does it, with nice smooth strokes.

And for friendly future advice on issues such as this, the best course of action is to always RT(F)M - Refer To (*******) Manual. :D

I can't believe people are suggesting using a damp cloth! I wouldn't put liquid anywhere near my screen unless it's specifcally designed to do the job. Each to their own I guess - the risk is yours.

Yea a dry cloth should work for dust but if theres any dried splatter from say your bodily fluids your going to need to use liquid to clean it. I use a mix of 50:50 isopropyl alcohol and water, lightly dampen a microfiber cloth then wipe away.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't used any liquids to clean it yet and just as well by the looks of it. I once cleaned a 17" CRT with a damp cloth and the screen went all smudgy and was never as clean again. Hence why I thought I'd better ask what was safe to use on a TFT.

Dry cloth to remove any dust etc. However if there is sn*t or spit on it I use a slightly damp cloth. It leaves the screen like new in most cases. There's no problem AT ALL using a damp cloth on a TFT. Obvisouly you have to take care as not to make the cloth too wet but damp is perfectly fine.

These OMGWTF don't do that post really annoy me!

I spray some "Klear screen" on a glasses cleaning cloth, and wipe all over the screen one way, then apply some more, and wipe down the other way. The problem with a 24" monitor though, is that the liquid dries before you have a chance to wipe it off, so it can leave streaks...I get awfully paranoid about those, angling the monitor to the light to see if they are there and stuff!

Anyway, according to the bottle:-

Klear sceen
Laptop & Computer Screen Cleaner
*Anti-Static
*Alcohol and Ammonia Free
*Cleans *Polishes *Protects

Says on the other side that it removes dust, smudges and fingerprints, and is highly recommended for cleaning all Digital Cameras, PDA's, TV screens, overhead, slide and video projector lenses, CD's, CD-ROM's, DVD's and laser discs.

Pretty good stuff then :D
