Right Im retiring my Hiper Type R 580w Its had a long happy life and never failed me, but asking it to run my water cooling, a crossfire setup, 2 optical drives, 4 hdd's and an overclocked sytem might just be a stretch for it.

I have 2 choices:

Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W or OCZ GAMEXSTREAM 1010W.

I dont usually ask whats better but with PSU's I have no clue, both get favourable results in reviews.

As already stated for x/Fire (or SLI) you won't need a 1000w PSU

Probably not. Depends on the GPU though - 480's and plenty of overclocking will get close.

What you certainly could do, though, is overload that XFX 650 XXX by a fair amount, at which point, according to the HardwareSecrets review, it might burn up rather than any functioning overcurrent protection kicking in:eek:

OP needs to be sure of system requirements before opting for the above lower power units.

Sorry - I'm an idiot - OP specifically said x-fire :o :o

I'll leave that there anyway as the comment is sound in general (including SLI) :)

LOL, right should have given more detail.

Just so we are all on the same boat, I like trying new things, right now im overclocking an E2140 and my Q9550 is sitting a drawer wondering why.
I sold my 4890 crossfire setup and banked the cash, I bought a set of 3850's as I had never had them, sold the 3850's and got me a set of 2900xt's for £30 to have a play with,

1000w is overkill but since the only game i play every day is Red Alert 2, my full rig is overkill

Just want a PSU that I can plug in and forget.
