An old family PC blew up (eMachines), I think the PSU and motherboard are gone and from googling I will need a new case as well as they wont fit other PSUs.

I'm really not up to date with latest technologies so can anyone help me with putting some compatible stuff together for me?

Specs really would be the minimum as I think this PC had 256mb or something.

I have a DVD drive, keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers.

Something like this ought to do for your requirements, you could save a little by going for 1gb Ram but given the saving is less than £10 I really wouldn't bother. A barebones system might be even cheaper although less upgradeable.

It will do but I think it only has one IDE connection so you will need to put both the hard drive and optical drive on the same chain, not a problem in itself but it does mean you can't add any more IDE devices. :)
