What GPUs are best bang-for-buck at the moment?

My friend has the rest of his new build sorted, but can't decide on a GPU. My reflex is to recommend the GTX 970, but it's a little high for his price range, and my PC knowledge is a bit outdated.

What would you recommend for £250? And for £150? Or lower?

He plays a myriad of games, from Total War to Star Wars: Battlefront to Guild Wars, all at 1080p though.

So long as it doesn't stutter (i.e., drop under 25fps a lot) he's not a FPS snob either.

For £250 I'd recommend a Palit GTX 970, Awesome card for the price - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pali...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-013-pl.html

For £150 I'd recommend an Asus Strix 380 - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-368-as.html

If you go lower than the 2 above your performance will start to suffer and it's really not worth it, Take it from someone who's bought cheapy cards.
