Someone wanting to spend 1200/1400 what is the go to cpu ? Is it still the i5 12600k?

A few months ago that was the one always suggested in builds for gaming at that price

So which cpu would you say is the best performance vs cost currently ? CPUs although old like the 5600x in terms of performance for gaming are they no longer in the conversation for builds of around 1200?
