I've just noticed, memory prices for both DDR2 and DDR have gone through the roof! What's the deal?! Are Samsung, Hynix and Micron doing the cartel thing again!? £100 for a 1gb DDR kit, absolute madness! I'm so glad I bought my HZ when they were (relatively) cheap, the LA now costs the same as my HZ did!

/rant over

(p.s. this isn't a rant at ocuk but at the memory companies, don't suspend me plz ;) :D  )

Supply and demand. The demand for memory has shot up since people are rapidly upgrading there cpu's to Core2duo/AM2 which require DDR2. Suppliers have also stopped manufacturing DDR so they are becoming rare aswell. That along with Xmas on the horizon (memory always rises at this time of year and the beginning of next).

also a lot of the big players in DRAM have been found guilty of price fixing, take a look at tom's hardware or the register and you can read more about it if you are interested. anyway Ram ( ddr2) prices will be dropping from now on for a while.

I'm hoping the prices drop off enough for me to pick up a nice cheapish DDR2 2Gig kit in january. May be able to push this board a little bit further.

Yeah it was well documented, Samsung were handed a $300 million fine iirc.

misquoted micron btw, meant infineon  :p

Who gets the "fine" money then? We get ripped off and some E.U. agency get to pocket 300 million! Not fair :(

hehe, it's made me finally get round to RMA'ing my Geil one BH, I'm getting some Samsung TCCD rated DDR550 @ 2.5-3-3-6 as a replacement! :)

Edit, the timings and frequency can't be right actually although that's what the email said..
