What's the deal with Mini-ITX Cases?

Why are these so damn expensive?? They're way smaller than a standard case so if anything shouldn't they be cheaper?
Could someone enlighten me?

Material cost is a negligible component of the price paid by the end user. Design, production, shipping cost more. Fewer itx cases than atx sold, so each has to be sold higher to make up for the costs listed above.

It's cheaper if you make it yourself, but then design + shipping is free, and only materials cost money
