What's the difference between paid and payed?

Grammatical thing

I paid him 5 quid. <--- Imperfect tense


I was payed 5 quid. <--- Perfect tense


Both past tense, one is the perfect conjugation, the other is the imperfect.
 
I think they are different types of past tense, the names escape me though.

"Paid" means you've been paid.

"PAYED" means you've been taxed on your Pay.

P.A.Y.E. = Pay As You Earn, ie: Income Tax.

I love how you're talking about correct English grammar yet used the slang word 'quid'. This is by no means a stab at you. :)

The use of slang however, does not make something gramatically incorrect :p
