whats the difference between these 2 cpu's

im pretty sure the number after i5 is a code right? im sure they are the same just different build time?

The numbers are right.

The i5 3570K is the older "Ivy Bridge"
The i5-4670K is the newer "Haswell"

Difference is Haswell has about 7% better performance, but Ivy Bridge clocks a little higher.
 
This might sound obvious but they are also on different sockets, Haswell is on 1150 and Ivy is 1155.

Might sound silly posting something so obvious but I have seen stupider things than buying incompatible components on PC forums!

I never knew that (although I have been out of the PC game for quite some time). You learn something new everyday ;)
