what's the difference

The D5 also has a much larger foot print. D5 performs over a wider range of applications but if you're a bit tight for space, the DDC might have to suffice.
 
D5's are a tad larger, have higher max flow rates and (usually) have manually adjustable speed settings, between the two they are regarded as quieter and the more reliable*.

DDC's have more pump head (more pressure) and so do better in more restrictive loops, they are also available in PWM variants (speed controlled by motherboard depending on temperatures).

*not saying that the DDC are noisy/unreliable, just that the D5 wins in those two areas.
