Im either going to be one of many asking this question or sound like a complete newbie, either way I want to know. There is only the slightest price difference, a few pounds from what I can see and I can't tell the difference.

Asus Maximus VI Hero

Asus Maximus VII Hero

again suggestions for similar motherboards of great quality are very welcome especially if it saves me money ;) +anything in a black color scheme is good too, as I want it to have a green theme rather than red.

I am planning to be running an Intel 4770k 16gb of ram, an SSD and HDD for mass storage, gtx780 ATX from EVGA (still not decided) all stuffed inside the Enthoo Pro from Phanteks

One is Z87 chipset and one is Z97.

They both support the current Haswell CPU's like your 4770K and also the new 4970K that is due in a few weeks.

But Z97 will also support Broadwell which is due later still.

If you want a green and black board then a Z87 Sniper is the only option.

Or for as cheaper red and black board the Gigabyte Gaming 3 supports SLI and is currently being supplied with a free £30 Corsair gaming headset.

Alright well I was first thinking of going with a Green theme as red would seem so traditional, most people tend to go for red gaming rigs, but I might just go for a bit of standard interior lighting and worry about the looks afterwards
