What's the "ideal" range for portraits on M4/3?

In the olympus add the 45 mm is stated as being good for portraits.
Is it true that 45mm in M4/3 is equiv to 90 in 35mm terms so wouldn't this be considered too long?

90mm on a 35mm camera is a superb focal length for portraiture as it has little to no distortion and compresses the background nicely for better separation.

There are some "no no's" though, such as using wide focal lengths (35 and below) at close range for headshots. Some even argue that 50mm for headshots also isn't flattering, but theres differences of opinion on that.

James does that mean using a Fuji x100 you don't do close range head shots with that,more for street yes?
