so i was a little bored last night and tried to overclock my ryzen, im running the stock cooler so i didnt try to push it and at the same time i tried to turn my ram up to 29?? as xmp option was grayed out.

i pushed the cpu to 33.50ghz

now i didnt touch anything else as ive only touched the volts settings in a bios once before, so i thought what i could do without and after saving the profile and restarting all i got was a running machine, but a blank screen which i am blaming the ram for, i have taken the cmos out, so going to see if it has reset everything and then just leave it lol.

i guess you could include the cpu if you want, but if this was mainly the ram, then what should be the limit before touching anything else? i only wanted to see if it made any performance difference.

the msi bios for the board isnt a setup im used to and i dont have it in expert mode either.

The expert mode is probably more like what you'd expect a bios to look like, I'm guessing the normal mode is a dumbed down interface with fewer options?

As for how far you can overclock the ram, that's anyone's guess. What ram is it?

thanks for reply.

yeah the expert mode has more specific options and details, stuff i dont know about, so lucky for me its normal mode as standard when you enter bios which is a simple no fuss setup.

my system is in the sig, its Ballistic sport(white) 2400mhz, the board is B350M Gaming pro which supports over 3000mhz i believe, i turn on xmp and nothing seems to happen from what i can see which is why i tried to manually do it.. i do some times think had i seen the hyper fury versions for same price at the time id have got that as they auto overclock.

ive done simple overclocking on a processor before with an aftermarket cooler, but this is the first time i tried to overclock ram manually which is why im unsure on things.

there is no answer whatsoever to your question.
its very easy to google your hardware and find overclocked settings that other people reached. "Ballistix Sport 2400mhz overclock"
