• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

What's the longest your rig served at the high end/stayed relevant in gaming.

Current PC is 9 years old and GPU's are 5 years old. Only upgraded GPU's and the SSD since then. Can play pretty much anything in 1080P ultra and most things (apart from totally mental AAA titles) in 1440P with a mixture of settings unless it has bad CFX support, same story with 4K on some older titles. Fallout 4 runs well in 4K ultra for example.

i7 2600K golden sample @ 5GHz
Asus P8Z68-V Pro
4x 4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz DDR3
GTX480 reference (hot hot hot!!)
40GB OCZ Vertex 2
XFX Pro 750W

Now:

CPU is at 4.6GHz, it is no longer 5GHz stable with the same volts.
40GB SSD replaced with a 256GB Samsung 830 a few years ago.
2x Sapphire Nitro R9 390 Tri-X 8GB's in Crossfire.

No plans to replace the core system.

Only failures I've had are fan bearings, on case fans and GPU fans. So I just replaced the fans. No drive failures yet touch wood, but I have nightly backups anyway so I'm not worried.

I replaced my Corsair H100 a few weeks ago after many years of loyal service because it was no longer performing well, and now have a Rajintek refillable AIO.

The "spare PC" which I use as a backup target is actually marginally newer than my main PC... With a 3570K and a Z77 board... I bought a complete "broken" PC earlier this year which had nothing wrong with it, for about £50. Up until then it was a 13 year old socket 771 workstation with a pair of quad core Xeons and 20GB of DDR2 ECC.
