Whats the max oc with 4 cores on i7 2600 non-k?

i beleieve the 2500k has been clocked at 5.5GHz by someone in japan using the rampage board (fully overclockable from board and upto the bios clocking, didn't read if he had been able to keep it there tho, i expect it melted his mobo after half hours use lol

I think the OP means the I7 2600 locked multiplier version.

I believe that turbo boost will boost it to 3.8 if enabled. I could be wrong though so I may be corrected! :)

Are you sure?

I think you can only raise the multiplier by 4x (400Mhz) on the non k version. That would be from 3.4Mhz to 3.8Mhz.

Yes, but Turbo still works, I'm not really sure why they locked out overclocking and let you up the multiplier.

So at stock its 3.4Ghz with 3.8Ghz turbo, but you can up the speed slightly, I keep seeing it refered to but not specifically detailed, I'm not sure if you can make it stock 3.8Ghz with 4.2Ghz Turbo, or if you can just up the Turbo so it would be 3.4Ghz stock with 4.2Ghz turbo.

Its worth remembering that the top turbo speed is for one core loaded which isn't that often these days. Its really not the same as whacking a K version up to 4.4Ghz which it can sustain with all 4 cores fully loaded.

Considering the mobo situation and the fact that the choice between h67/p67 sucked balls anyway, you're better off waiting for Z68 based boards.

With sales for Intel likely tanking in the next 2-3 months due to the mobo issues, and customer confidence down there could be some really good mobo pricing when Intel effectively relaunch the mobo's.

At the moment the only reason to really think about being stuck to turbo based overclocking would seem to be going with a mobo that uses the IGP, Z68 will fix the no IGP and oc'ing on the same mobo.
