Whats the pci device that the 3870 wants to intall?

Got my 3870 card this morning, opened it and its only a single slot card and its blue,, I thought all sapphire cards were red and were a double slot card?

Anyway installed the card and put the 7.12s drivers on, but afer it restarts xp it wants to install a pci device, but it cant find the drivers for, Its installed the main drivers fine but whats this pci device that it tries to install guys? Also when xp reboots, the white "welcome" is light brown?

So is there any fix to get the brown text back to normal?? I havent bothered installing the sound drivers, cos I'll doubt I will ever use the onboard sound

Even zone alarm text is brown where it should be black, look

Ah, I've got the text problem too, must be driver related then. Did you install your drivers straight over an old batch or as new?

My symptoms are identical to yours. I'm just not worrying about them for now, so long as it gets fixed at some point I don't mind.

I uninstalled 7.10 then put the 3870 card in and installed 8.1 drivers

Ive unchecked it, so its still on standard im guessing, but without the brown text. Zone Alarm text is still brown tho, but I can put up with that. thanks very much the akirru, I would have never figgered that out if you hadnt of told me

I have seen that sapphire are doing a single slot solution. It utilises a "vapour chamber" which works very much like heat pipes only much better aparantly. It is said to work much better than the standard duel slot solution too. I'm not sure if this is the version that you have but if your thinking of running a crossfireX setup with 4 cards i think they would be very handy.

what are your temps like anyway and whats the fan noise like in 2D and 3D?

The temps are really good atm, idel 37- 42, not sure about load cos ive only been gamng for about 5mins to test it out, but It hasnt been passed the 40s yet while gaming. The fan on it seemes to be really good, cos its not always on.

Away the cooling seemes to be much better then my his 1900xt card

but yeh very impressive about 20-25c cooler then my 1900xt at full load, but I have only ran 2 or 3 games for about 5mins or so,, Put it this way, the temp was saying 40c after the benchmark for crysis had finshed.

The fan kicks in when it gets to 43c and then continues untill it gets down to 37c then turns off. It only takes about 20-30secs for the temp to get down to 37c from 43c. then takes about 2-3mins to get back to 43c, then the fan kicks back in again.. Thats when the card it idel.
