What's the precedent for discontinuing older models of GPU?

As a VR flight simmer my RX6800XT does struggle a bit sometimes. I have been looking at the RX7900XTX for ages and thinking that would be my next move.

Money is a bit tight after Xmas though so I would really prefer to wait 3 months or so before buying, although I might be able to buy one at a push just now.

Does anybody know what is the AMD precedent for continuing/discontinuing graphics card manufacture after they launch a new range? Given the 9070 won't be quite as powerful as the 7900XTX and certainly have less memory do you think AMD will continue manufacturing the 7900XTX as their flagship even after the 9070 launches??? If I thought I could wait a bit and still get one then I wouldn't rush to buy one. If on the other hand they're likely to become unobtainable new then perhaps I need to just buy one now.

Grateful for any advice. None of the 9070's appeal because of limited memory and slower anyway. I'm not an Nvidia fan due to their unscrupulus market manipulation but frankly the 4080/5080 are overpriced and impossible to get anyhow.

Many thanks,

Birdseed
