Got a realy annoying problem, and it's ..... realy annoying.

On a fresh install of XP, with all the windows updates downloaded and installed. The computer randomly locks up. And the windows loading bar has a good 20 laps before I get into windows.

When the computer's loaded... after 20 scrolls. Everything is fine, untill it randomly locks up. ( I would have thought that if it's taking that long to load windows, it would be slow when in windows.. but it's fine ) ??

I've re-installed windows about... 8 times. That didn't fix anything. It used to work fine, I don't know why it's started doing this al of a sudden.

Arg... been trying to fix that damn computer for 2 days, and the amount of other problems it's had. I feel like smashing it up and just buying a new one ^__^

Sounds like memory.... How many sticks? try with just 1 and then with just another 1

Memory is something that you could test, make a memtest bootable disk. Also, when it locks up, does it just freeze with the image on screen? Or does it BSOD and restart?

Also maybe have a look in event viewer, there might be something in there giving a clue.

i was thinking memory then saw the 2 above posts ;)

memory testing requires patience...

also whats your spec?
