Evening all, ive just built my 1st oc system with
Phenom II x4 965
2x2gb mushkin blackline 1600mhz
Ma770t-ud3p with f12 bios installed
Hd6700
Coolermaster 500w
Arctic freezer 13
12cm fan on front of coolermaster elite 330 case
12cm arctic freezer fan on rear

According to amd overdrive at stock speed 3.4 im running 39c @ idle, running prime95 it creeps up to approx 60c where I cancel the test. Ive tried and tried oc in bios just a simple 19x200 @ 1.5v and save but pc wont boot yet if I put the same settings in via overdrive it runs and is stable but just heat increases... Why?! :-S

Ive never oc before but think I got the basics right,??? I would like 3.8-4ghz but heat is holding me back

Ok thanks, i only just managed to oc in bios today and get it to boot, but with 13x300 @ 1.5v.

these figures were in custompc mag where they gave step by step instruction on how to oc phenom 965. it booted, then crashed, and its a pain to having to keep clearing cmos to reset it again.

il try what you said. now...

if board is a bit naff (gigabyte) what can you recommend for an honest oc speed. is a 970 chipset like asrock xtreme 3 ok?

any personal recommendations?

Right, got it booted with the settings you mentioned, i have cpuz and core temp running for you to look at.

Never OC before but its addictive!!

Dunno why for you to look at, i guess yo were the 1st and only person to reply to me :)

I primed it but had to stop at 60c, i cancelled the test but it kept going though.
now at 3.8ghz

just seems quite a high idle. you think freezer 13 is a small cooler?? i actually laughed when i got it out the box cuz id never seen an aftermarket cooler before and thought it was mega. Any other fair priced fan/coolers you can think of?

i have a coolermaster elite 330 with a 12cm fan on front, and a 12cm arctic cooling f12 fan on the rear with space for 2x12cm fans on the side.

ive left it idle now for 15mins and its 36c

im gonna look for these coolers you mentionned, see if they fit am3 sockets... what i want is air draw being horizontal and exhaust out the rear fan, the arctic cooler has vertical layout only so drawing in air from below, just about gpu and up toward case lid.

Lots of smaller coolers that are no where near the top are great coolers:
Zaward Vapor 120 is one of my favorites
Gelid Tranquillo
Alpenföhn Triglav
Cooler Master Hyper 612S
to name only a few

good to know that actually... what are your comparisons to the freezer 13??

The Arctic is a small cooler, Big coolers like a thermalright silver arrow, Phanteks or a Noctua NH-D14 thats where the muscle is lol

that is a pretty warm idle, what case do you have, what is the airflow like?

just rebooted @ 19.5x200 @ 1.375v... only thing i have loaded is my browser to get here, idle at 33c

ive just been viewing 1080p vids on youtube, looking at all reviews and my cpu is idle at 39c. and seems happy to sit there. correct, no top vent (facing up anyway) but there is an exhaust 12cm fan right near the vrm etc

do you mean install another fan where the 3x5.25" bays are blowing air into the case the same as the fan at the bottom of the case? i would much prefer to vent out the heat from cpu to rear fan if possible? my freezer 13 cant do that . if you do infact mean another fan where the 5.25 bays are, can you show where/how i get a fan to be installed there, and how i would power it up? i think i have a power fan connector just infront of memory bays though..

Edit:

I think i have found what you mean.. is it this... http://alturl.com/iik7o

That's the general idea. Your Elite 330 has 4 5.25 bays with vented front, correct? Just wedge a 120mm fan in with 1 optical drive using foam and plug it in ;)

doesnt it have to be filtered though? sorry for all the noob questions... its all gobbledegook to me :) is it recommended to plug each fan into a board fan connector or all off a molex>fan splitter?

I had bsod earlier, then restarted, so into bios and upped the voltage 1 notch back up to 1.4v. Gonna look for a 140 fan then with some sticky foam! As they are bigger they spin slower so will give it 12v and as fan for hd6770 blows down, I will get a small fan to fit in the pcie bays as you mentioned and secure with foam

What would i use for ducting? I would only use a 80mm fan on pcie slots as opposite the pcie slots is f12 fan. Then the fan in 5.25 bays also drawing air in from top front. Psu sits on bottom drawing filtered air up and exh bottom rear or is the 120 fan top rear of case above vrm enough as a sole exh.?

Ive got the gelid splitter bookmarked ready. Think a 120 fan will be the order and pad out with foam. does the gelid splitter come with 4fans + 1cpu fan connector or is cpu connector one of the 4?

1 fan connection is split into 4 fan connections. CPU fan plus 3 other fans for a total of 4 fans.

One socket has 4 pins; PWM signal from motherboard, RPM signal to mother board, 12v and neutral/ground from molex.

There is only one plug and it has has 2 pins; RPM signal from fan; PWM signal to all 4 sockets.

Other three sockets have 3 pins; PWM signal from motherboard, 12v and neutral/ground from molex.

In PWM fan the PWM signal triggers 12v pulses to fan motor. The RPM signal from original/master fan is used by motherboard to determine how fast the 12v pulses need to be for that fan motor maintain RPM motherboard wants fan to run. All other fans are sent same PWM signal. Their RPM is not monitored

Ok I get that, so the 4 fan splitter is sufficient for me... Cpu fan, exhaust fan, and 2 entrance fans. I know I have just one molex on my psu and isnt used so this splitter will make v good use of it. I wish I could manage my wires better but the loom is a but too thick to fit under the board even with the 6mm stand up plugs I screw and hold board onto. But I guess il find a way!! I have an external hdd id like to strip and fit inside into one of my 3.5 bays, is it possible to remove the usb connectivity and connect via sata?? I dont think I can fit just a fan in the 5.25 bay as the face isnt filtered, its a solid cover so will need that lian li thingy I think??? Also if you notice my screen prints on cpuz the voltage drops when speed is increased, is it lower cuz the speed has increased? And is it a general plan to keep near to 1.4v in cpuz thus meaning I need a higher vcore in bios??

prime temp gets to about 63c, but i cancel it after a while as i dont wanna fry my cpu. but its stable. thinking of dropping it to 3.8 and dropping vcore a bit to try lower the temp. but those temps are with the freezer 13 fitted, as said quite "poor" in comparison to like zaward vapor where its only 12c higher than ambient temp. wasnt too sure what you mean by run max rpm only pwm splitter cable though? i was given the fan as asked my dad to get hold of one if he saw a well priced fan so got me that. dont think im too fussed if its max rpm, as long as its drawing air in. or is it worth perhaps using that ak-183 as a side fan and get the one you linked to me to fit in the 5.25 bay?? or is 3 in fans and 1 out a bit too much??

ive never modded anything pc wise before....my vent in front of 3.5 bay was already filtered and ready for a 120mm fan, perhaps fabricate some sort of plastic frame and use some ..ahem.. cheap tights as a filter??? or just say 5od it and buy the lian li 5.25 bay adaptor with fan and filter on it ready to go for a mere £18???

p.s thanks for the message, ive got that saved in my favourites already, so il look at it proper when i get an hour ... its a wicked post mind.
