Whats the real temperature of my CPU?

In speed fan it says:


CPU: 24C
Core1: 44C
Core2: 44C
Core3: 35C
Core4: 34

44,44,35,34 doesn't make an average of 24.

So whats the actual temperature?

Can't really be answered because it's actually two dual cores on the same chip.. Hence the two are at around 44 and the other two are at 35.

It may be the IHS isn't that flat on one side.. You may have to consider lapping this to make better contact with the HSF..

He means the temp of his cpu not cores, so like stick a heat sensor on top and that reading will be the temp of CPU, but speedfan reading it wrong for him

asus probe is also reading the same temp

edit: i'm running the CPU on stock cooler. I doubt the temperature can be that low with it

I would guess that 24oc is the temp of the IHS.. The important factor here is the temp of the cores. which suggest, by those figures, there is a slight seating problem.

CPU temp is comming from a sensor on the IHS and therefore will be different to coretemp which is comming from the cores.. nothing to worry about other than your uneven core temps which is probably down to an uneven IHS

Keep in mind that fan is on low because i set my EPU to medium power saving

Basically i make myself an average of the core temps to give the general CPU temp and forget about the CPU temps that SpeedFan shows + asus probe etc...

Realtemp reports ruffly 5c lower as it uses a different TJmax for that CPU 95c, rather than the 100c that speedfan/coretemp are using.. Which is right is a matter of debate.. most people who have carried out tests (check out the XS forums) would say 95c is the correct TJMax

As I said earlier the CPU temp you are seeing is being reported from a sensor somewhere near the IHS, this temperature is what you see as CPU temp in the BIOS and also what speedfan/etc.. is reporting as CPU temp..

The coretemps are taken directly from the processor cores and are the temps that matter

Only concern I'd have with your radings is the 8/9c betweenthe two core sets.

As I'm writing this Real Temp's readings are 34/32/30/29 - a difference of 4/2c between which , from what I've read is o'k.

What are your readings under load ? Does the gap narrow?(with mine it's roughly constant)

Is the heatsink seated correctly?

wouldnt worry about differences at idle.. is probably different cores doing different things

at 3.6ghz idle am currently sitting @ 24/27/24/24 under load they all even out at 41/41/41/41 (both heatsink and CPU lapped) if you are within 5c at load thats all i would worry about.. and even if you not as long as you arent aiming for a huge clock then it doesnt make much difference (assuming they arent stupidly different)
