Having a bit of trouble overclocking my X3350 (Q9450) on my new DFI LT X48. It was stable @ 3.5ghz on my old board, a Gigabyte X38-DS4, but on this one, it seems that even conservative overclocks will cause random lock-ups and bluescreens.

I've read quite a lot about the board from various forums, including Clunk's guide and it seems like the Q9450 is a bit of a pig to overclock. I just can't seem to find any sweet spots as far as settings go and it's really irking me. Quite tempted to sell the CPU and go back to a Q6600 or an E8400 actually, as they'll be easier to OC, and the low multi on the 3350 means that any higher than 438mhz FSB I have to run my RAM dog-slow.

So basically I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips or successes to share with this board/CPU? I think the key to success must be tweaking the VTT and GTL voltages, but this is getting me nowhere.

Any input appreciated! :)
 
No trouble with my Q9450 on a P45 (Asus P5Q-E).
Hits 3.6ghz without a sweat.

Given taht you know you can hit 3.5ghz with another mobo then the culprit is the new mobo. I've heard DFI's are very finicky with their voltages and extra options. And you may have gotten a lemon.

Can't give you any advice on how to make the DFI work though, as im spoilt with my mobo's lack of complicated settings.
 
Stuck my Gigabyte X38-DS4 back in there this morning, dived into the bios, and hey presto, 3.5ghz!

Thanks for helping me make my mind up; I can't really be bothered figuring this board out, too much of a n00b and too lazy anyway.

The DFI LT-X48-T2R is REALLY sensitive to temperatures - for good overclocking on it you pretty much must watercool the Northbridge and have some sort of active cooling on the PWM heatsinks (or better yet, water cool those too). Once you control the chipset cooling, you've got a racing chance of getting a half-decent overclock out of it.
