I did Army training a couple of years back and we had to do the 'standard' run.

How many miles is it?

Aye thats the one!

I did it just under 12 mins when i was 14-15 ish, was thinking about trying to construct a life and start running again :D

Depends on how old you are:

Its 1.5 miles (2.4km) in under 10:30 for under 30s. Before that you have to achieve 44+ press ups in under 2 mins, followed by 50+ sit ups in 2 mins. All have to be of good quality.

Im an army officer before anyone questions it. :)

Salutes.

Sounds tough, think I could manage it in about 30 mins :p Dunno about the press ups and sit ups though lol

lol you should try the ACFT then, 25kg including rifle on your body same course under 15mins.

Haha

Since i left highschool i found the world of booze and when uni came around ive just full on ruined my life :D

Quick question, even though it is 1.5m is 10.5 minutes I assume faster is obviousely better, what kind of time would be good to aim for for someone who is not at all fit at the moment but is in the process of changing that?

already knackered from what?
44+ pressups and a few situps? nahh!!! (me = hero) :D
If you aint fit at all just have the goal of completing 1.5miles, log the time, then try and beat it next time.
The army tests aren't supposed to be that hard. If they were half of the repribates applying wouldn't get in.
So once you've attained a certain level, use the army standards as a baseline. You'll be suprassing it in no time.
Good luck.

Good idea, off to the gym tonight so will see what I can manage on the running machines, not a good guage but the weather is 'orrible and I don't want to embarass myself.

Depends on how old you are ?, my run time was 11minutes when i went to ADSC, it depends what job your going for, i dont want to argue with a officer though :p

its 50 sit ups in 2 minutes, and 48 press ups in 2 minutes, what i was told at adsc.

i went to ADSC with a run time of 11 minutes and passed no trouble with a time of 10:30, and im in the infantry.
i start basic in 2 weeks, and ive put on weight, im going to get hammered if i get a worse time than i did at adsc.

EDIT: i didnt see you said for under 30s, thats basically everyone anyway.

Thing is, that 1.5mile run is done when you're already knackered.

If you get knackered from 4 minutes total of press ups and sit ups then i suppose your right.

As for a good time for someone unfit, just aim to get as close as you can. Progress into it your not going to be fit from day one.

As for the guy whos about to start basic...you will find that run time coming down preety quickly. Good luck.

ran the great north marathon twice am 18 atm, dno what times i did it in. i should try this.

i wish i was as fit as i was 2 years ago

i used to run 2.5mile in 14 minutes, now im nowhere near that

I was thin as a rake, still am so I don't have the endurance to keep up a good pace throughout the distance. The top guys were getting around 6 minutes or so...
