What's the status on the 360's DVD upscaling via component?

Well it's news to me, never having used the feature, but apparently the 360 can't upscale a DVD picture if it's being outputted via component.

Is this news still correct, or has a recent update got around this?

not as far i know, its not really a feature you 'use' it just does it over vga. Ive used both connections and I can honestly say I can see no difference, aside from the picture quality difference from the diff cables anyway.

I think its some DVD forum rule to not upscale DVDs over component. When using component DVD playback looked exactly the same as my old regular DVD using Scart cable.

I then started using HDMI on my Xbox and the picture is so much sharper and clearer. However games look pretty much the same on component and HDMI.

Lucifurr is right. It's a licensing issue. They aren't allowed to implement DVD upscaling over component cables.

Given that, it will never be enabled on the 360 unless the license changes.
