Broadband speeds in the UK are terrible! we seem to be the only country who aint improving are broadband speeds, im still on a 1meg connection due to where i live, however virgin have recently put cable in my area which is useful but im not in a position to get a second line in here.

does anyone know any news about ADSL2 coz im sure im still on ADSL

Speeds aren't improving? Did you miss VM rolling out 20Mbps, Be/UKOnline/Sky/Bulldog all offering >8Mbps (in some cases, for free), BT offering up to 8Mbps?

Are you on fixed rate 1Mbps? Thought about Max?

The LLUers more or less all offer ADSL2+: Sky, Bulldog (now Pipex-Tiscali) and Be. Dunno about Tiscali or TalkTalk, but they don't count anyway.

It's also possible that ADSL2+ wouldn't help you anyway.

im on talk talk and ive just looked at my speeds and im only getting like 1.1 meg and ive looked at my exchange and yes LLU has been activated for talk talk  any idea to what i can do? like is it down to talk talk to allocate me more speed?

Depends on how far you are from the Exchange and what your line quality is like.

Try using the number checker at www.samknows.com for a clue.

If you can post your line stats from your modem/router that would also help. (attenuation, SNR etc.)

.

But surely the big 20Mbps rates are like in major cities only, or, if you live close enough to the exchange. It's probably not an option for most people.

However, what are the pro's of ADSL2+?

Cheers. :)

The same applies to the headline speeds in other countries, that make the UK supposedly so poor...

However, what are the pro's of ADSL2+?

Up to 24Mbps down and 2.5Mbps up, Seamless Rate Adaption, reduced power consumption when the connection is idle, easier bonding.

Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.

The following services are available in your location:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU

You are approximately 2.50km from the exchange

The '2.50Km' figure is straight line so the actual cable length could well be long enough to mean your current speed is as good as it gets for you.

We'll know more when you post the line stats from your modem/router, looks here if you are not sure how to find them :

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1152 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 60 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 14 db 22 db

Hope that helps

The only thing i can think of is getting an extra line put in been cable as i can get that now from virgin but again will i get a better connection? thats the question

Is your modem plugged into the master socket? I helped a friend relocate his ADSL from an extension where he was getting 4MB to the master socket where he got the full 8MB of his line.

Of course this depends on the quality of the extensions, but ensure you are connected as such. I am 2.3km from my exchange straight line and get 6MBbit. Of course there are many variables involved here, but this is just an example.

I'm apparently 2.8km (straightline) form the Exchange, with the following stats, and sync at 1400kbs (1mbit profile) :(

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1440 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 52 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 13 db 17 db

Wish I had the option of cable too :(

I think you should be just about able to scrape 2MB fixed ADSl... I have very similar line stats and mine is fine and doesn't drop. :)

They have possibly relaxed the requirements... because where before it showed red for my abillity to get 2MB, it now shows green, and i'm further from the exchange than the OP is.

OP, try and shoot for 2MB fixed does it say it's available to you on Sam Knows?

The requirement hasn't changed at all...indeed, fixed rate non-Max products are on their road out.

See what BT Wholesale say, but Max is a better option, especially with the profile steps in between.
