Whats the trick to adding a 2nd top fan to a HAF-X?

I've got a newer HAF-X with the USB 3 mobo header, I'm not sure if the front ports cabling has changed too.

I'm adding a 2nd Megaflow 200mm fan at the top and wonder if there is an accepted way of routing the cables around it. e.g. do you have to cut and re-tie the cables, or can you push and pull then top fit without doing damage?

Also, is there any way of connecting this to the same switch that controls the led on the front fan, so they can all be turned off/on together?

thanks

IIRC i didn't need to re-tie the cables. They do just squeeze through, but it's very tight.

There is a way of doing it, however... you need to wire in some cables and cut the circuit boards in the fans. If you google it you can find some really interesting threads about it.

I had to cut the tie and spend a long time moving cables around, but got there in the end - NOT a good design.

I'll google the LED mod, but looks like it will be too much fiddling at the moment, as I'm just about to build the new PC.

i also have to remove the cable ties and try a few different routings untill i found that its just going to be tight whatever way i tired and i actually used a wooden spoon to push the cables around the fan while i tried to put the top back on but it worked lol

How much does adding the second fan affect your temps

I don't know , as I've not built the system yet :-)

My reason for the 2nd fan is that I am installing an antec Kuhler 920 to suck air into the case. The original top fan seems too near to the unit to exhaust the air, so a 2nd fan should hopefully do the job. I may also add a shroud, which make the 920 even longer and hence further past the original top fan.

I'm not exhausting air through the 920 as my gfx card is a Frozr II - which dumps hot air into the case.

If any HAF-X / watercooler experts have any better ideas I'm happy to listen.

I didn't need to untie them, but I managed to route them into the gap in the fan shroud fairly easily.

TBH, with my case, i see virtually no difference in temps between having the fans on or off!!!

I'm planning on WC mine, but I want to see if you can fit two of the phobya 200mm rads in the top as they seem to have very good performance on low low fans speeds.

I fitted the side 200mm fan to the top & fitted a Megaflow to the side , was a bit of a fiddle but managed without undoing cables.
AFAIK the original fans have 4 holes in them which you can insert LED's , might be easier to use these & connect these to a switch rather than chopping the wiring for the front fan .
