What's the VM Superhub 3 like?

VM are sending me a Superhub 3.

Currently I'm using an original Superhub in modem mode with my own router which solved the issues I was having with latency and Wifi and has been rock solid.

Question is, should I just stick the SH3 straight into modem mode and continue as before or give it a try as a stand-alone router?

If your own router supports AC WiFi then stick the hub 3 into modem mode, the firmware that current customers get on the hub 3 doesn't even work properly with stuff like Chromecasts etc.

its actually very good, I have always used a 3rd party router with SH 1 and 2.

But this new SH3 is grand. Wifi is ace, and you have all the options you need.

Only one bad point, that is the menus can take a while to load up.

As a modem ive had no problems. As a router is sucks big time, incompatible with chromecast and slow / weak signal connecting to FireTV for streaming

Swapped out for a standalone router and have not have any issues since.

Thanks all. Think I'll just stick with modem mode. Current router only has 802.11n Wifi but I only use it for phones & tablets and it's more than fast enough. Don't even have any AC devices at present so no real benefit there.

Arrived Sat, ended up putting it straight into modem mode and have replaced my aging router with an Asus RT-AC87U. All working very well indeed.

Got mine last week. A pain to setup after it auto updated the firmware. Had to do a factory reset once after the upgrade and since then its been flawless. I connect wirelessly at 433Mbps using a cheap ac wireless card from the bay. Also Chromecast works fine but make sure you are trying to configure it on a 2.4 Ghz connection. Had my phone connected to the 5 Ghz connection and it wouldnt recognise the chromecast. Flipped to 2.4 Ghz and I was able to configure it fine
