NDA on penryn lifts on the 15th.

AMD have Barcelona next but this won't see desktop use till around mid 08 IIRC.

I thought Barcelona was going to ship a server version first around July time, and then a desktop version will appear around spetember time.

I could be wrong though....

Me thinks you be correct.

I think we've got some of the new AMD chips at work, in an 8-way jobby.

But yeah AMD are shipping out some server chips this year, then the desktop chips will follow sometime after....cant tell you when exactly though.

Could they possibly be 8000-series Opterons?

I'm not entirely sure the Barcelonas have in fact been released, so I'm thinking that you may have the eight-way Opterons...

The Barcas are slated for release July/August-time, although the most recent rumour suggests that has slipped to October.

I cant remember off the top of my head, i would have to go and have a look...It is only in the other room so i could go look...

But we do get engineering samples over here a lot of the time.

I remmeber having a play with the Quad Xeons about 4 months before they came out =D I got let loose on them to pound the aboloute buggery out of them ;) haha...That was fun!

So would I be right in thinking that the penryn core wont work in nforce 680 sets or is it something that may be fixed with a bios update?

So would it be a better idea to invest in a P35 chipset and wait for Penryn instead of the current Conroes?

you have to bear in mind that there are price reductions coming for conroe, while penryn will be at the top-end of early-adopter pricing. you pays your money and so on...

quad-core conroe on P35 looks like it'll be quite tasty come July 22nd.
