This product seems very popular and you'd think it'd strikes the best balance between quality and cost. I've followed this line of rationale for many buying decisions (albeit for things I'm not overly fussed about) and generally didn't come off biting on finger nails, except for the Plantronics GameCom 780 which really sounded terrible for me as it barely had any bass.

Since I haven't been extremely successful with this logic in the sound department I'd like to hear some opinions on the Logitech Z506. I'm no audiophile but consider myself of an above-average expectations when it comes to sound. Usage gaming and a lot of music. It seems like a fair buy but just conscious it could have one of those little things that are rarley picked up in reviews etc that may ruin the experience for me.

If you'd like to offer another product suggestion then please do so, should be 5.1 and in the same price range as the Z506 (not interested in dashing +£100 for 10% gain).

Oh yes and using onboard Realtek® ALC892 chip.

Cheers guys

I can comment, purchased the Z506 set a few years back.

Tonnes of bass, shoots downwards through the floor, very bad news for people below if you are not living on ground floor, good news if you love ultra loud pumping bass though.

Treble is quite "tinny" because satellite speakers are quite poor quality. Centre speaker has always had "fuzzy" background noise for me when no sound playing but speakers are on.

Mid range is non-existant - this was a major factor for me. You either have HUGE PHAT BASS or tinny treble, nothing in between.

For PC gaming, I far prefer my trusty 2.0 setup. Bass is not over-powering (but still plenty of oomph) and mid range is amazing. No tinny sounds at all. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-116-CL&groupid=702&catid=22&subcat=719

(teamed with Creative Z sound card)

great for movies and music too. no complaints.

still keep the Z506 in the loft for house parties though, they are good for that ;)

So installed the Logitech X-530 yesterday, bought it off eBay for £30. I have always been wary of buying second hand, but I have to say I'm very satisfied with my first purchase. Condition is as new and I saved myself ~£140!! I'm not sure what is mid range, as I explained I'm no audiophile, but they sounded pretty awesome. May even consider installing a dedicated sound card later on as the speakers definitely worth it.

Thanks for your input chaps.
