so few weeks back i noticed around my area on pavements (end of the roads/junctions) a symbol appeared, there are lots of instances of it, i tried google but couldnt find out..

i am thinking gang related? to mark their turf but surely council/police would have done something? its basically two white boxes (kind of like chess boxes)
