Hello everybody...

I have an issue with Microsoft Security Essentials not being able to fully download updates fully. Gets 1/3 across the bar and stops and eventually fails the download. Anybody have any ideas to what might be the problem.

I have uninstalled then reinstalled it MSE
Tried to force an update through Microsoft's updates page,
Preformed a satanic ritual,
Turned my PC on and off again,
Took my left sock off, but no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Although I appreciate that not being able to do automatic updates is a problem in itself, in the mean time have you tried downloading the definitions update file manually and running it to update? Is that what you mean by force an update through Microsoft's updates page? Definitions update files can be found here https://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/definitions/adl.aspx

:edit: I was assuming this was for use on Windows 7, if not, then yes Defender incorporated the functions performed by MSE from Windows 8 onwards, so you don't need MSE.

In Windows 7 and earlier, Defender was only anti-spyware, whereas MSE was more broad anti-malware, and so would disable Defender if it was installed. In 8 and onwards they decided to bin off the MSE name, only release on anti-malware package and call it Defender.
