Hey guys, i just got online with my new rig and ran cpu-z to find out some stuffs, and im a little confused at my ram.

Its the OCUK-Value 2x 1gig 1066 ram, which they say runs at 5-5-5-15

but my cpuz "Memory" tab says

DRAM Frequency 533 ( ddr2 = 1066 right? )
FSB:DRAM 1:2 (do i need to know about this? im intending to OC my Q6600 g0)
CL 5
tRCD 7
tRP 7
tRAS 24

whats up with those timings??

Also, on the SPD page, 1 of my ram pairs has different readings than the other

one of them has frequencies listed at 200, 266, 555
and the other has 400 and 555

any help?

PS: im running an X38-DS4.
PPS: any guides on OC-ing my Q6600 g0 ?

The 533mhz and 1:2 ratio reading are correct.

To get the 5-5-5-15 rating you'll need to set your memory voltage to either 2.0v or 2.1v (1.8v will be the motherboards defaut setting).

Then you'll have to set the first four memory timings in the motherboards BIOS to 5, 5, 5, 15 respectively. If the timings aren't in the overclocking menu (probably the MIT menu) then hit Ctrl and F1 together on the main BIOS screen and re-enter the MIT menu, where the timings should have magically appeared. They'll be set to Auto, so it's just a case of setting the 5-5-5-15 manually.

theres a few problems im having now,

I set the system memory multiplier to 4.00a
over volted the ddr2 by 0.25 to give it 2.06v
timings set to 5-5-5-15

wouldnt even post, reset the CMOS, same as above with a 0.35 over volt on the ddr2 to give 2.16

same again.

works fine at those timings with the multiplier at 3.00a (2:3FSB in cpu z, DRAM at 400mhz )

cant figure out why it wont work with the new timings at 1066.

ALSO noticed

in the bios the automatic timings when at 1066 say 5-6-6-18 but in cpu z i got the timings stated in the first post. im gonna manually set 1066 at 5-6-6-18 and see if it boots.

ideally i want the 5-5-5-15 that have been advertised by OCUK

EDIT/UPDATE

just set it at 1066 and manually set the clocks. CPU-Z now reads 533 fsb 2:1 with my clocks at 5-6-6-18 but they wont go any higher without me having to clear the cmos.

heres the product description from OC

- PC8500 1066MHz CAS 5-5-5-15
- 240pin, Non-ECC, Un-buffered DDR2 SDRAM DIMM
- 6 Layers Ultra Low Noises Shielded PCB
- 1yr Warranty
- 2.0V-2.3V Power Supply

also, how will i handle the ram clocks when using a fsb that isnt one of the set multipliers on the board
EG - 266, 333, 200 and 400?

Try giving the memory 2.1v to see if 5-5-5-18 is attainable.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that.

on my motherboard theres the options "system memory multiplier"

and the options are

2.00A
2.50A
3.00A
4.00A
2.00D
2.66D
2.00B
2.40B
3.20B
2.66C
3.33C
4.00C

and in the description panel it says

use the following settings based upon your FSB (or some such)

x.xxA - 266
x.xxB - 333
x.xxC - 200
x.xxD - 400

so far when benching ive only tried multipliers with these numbers on since the auto number when using a 400 fsb (for example) was 1200, and my ram is only 1066.

theres no actual way for me to enter 1066 or strap it to 1066. i have to use the multipliers listed at the top.

also, ive tried my ram at 1066 with 2.0 2.1 and 2.2v and lowering any of the timings wont let me boot.

---------UPDATE-------

i figured out all those number above are just regular multipliers, and the letters are just there to make things easy for people using those clock numbers.

my CPU is now 9x378 ( 3.4ghz ) and my DRAM is 472.5 (945mhz)

i then fiddled with the timings, lowering things one by one as it would actually let me when the ram isnt at 1066.

i ran memtest every so often (not the full test about 10 minutes worth) and my timings are now 4-5-5-10
when they reached that, they wont boot up the post screen if they go any lower, so i ran memtest for about 30 minutes ( did about 30% of the test i think ) with no errors.

that sound ok to you? im happy with the speed and happier with the timings

i have had three sets of the ocuk 1066mhz ram and all have been bad, the spd have settings for 1100mhz at 1.8v, this ram is 800mhz being sold as 1066mhz, all the sets i have had cant do 1066mhz even at 2.2v
