just a little something im noticing... depreciation... lots of it...

8 weeks ago i was looking at buying the following from MM at the following prices

opty 146 £130
7800GT (not for me) £160
2X 1 gig of corsair XMS £130

in the last fortnight ive picked them up for this...

opty 146 £100
7800GT (not for me) £120
2X 1 gig of corsair XMS £95

im not complaining, in fact im very very happy :) but i was just wondering whats causing all these drops in prices? and is it limited to MM, or are prices deflating for similar items from the main store ?

might have something to do with the release of new platforms from both AMD and Intel?

that may account for some of it, but everything from memory chips to graphics cards ? i saw an X1900XT on sale for £240 ?! 3 weeks ago you couldnt get one for under £290 .... v. odd.

It's similar on the bay too where prices have dropped significantly possibly due to lots of those items for sale but not enough buyers to maintain recent prices?

the opty 144 is £130 new, i highly doubt anyone would buy a 2nd hand 146 for £130, £100 sounds right..

AMD Opteron UP 146 2.0Ghz Socket 939 64Bit Processor -Retail £162.99 (from a very cheap cpu supplier, even cheaper than OCUK in some places (but with service that comes from the devil himself.)

the one i bought is 2 months old and a full retail pack. even got the opteron sticker for my case  so i would have presumed the second hand price to be £115 to £125
