admittedly not the most popular - I run an Abit AW9D-MAX, and its great - especially compared to a short-lived dalliance with a gigabyte DQ6  - but I have had probs with bios updates.

It took a while for updates to resolve ram bandwidth efficiency, still waiting on a good Quad-core+4GB supporting uppie. however not all people report the same issues, have a look at the abit forums for more info (linky).

Otherwise tip-top, if I was buying today (and I'd wait!) - I'd go for a P35 solution, a lot of good news coming about these. I'm likely to hold onto my aw9d-max for a xeon bump before nehalem comes out. so not too much to complain about, tbh.

i want one of these mobos because i like the layout and the fact it has little old technology on it (such as few pci slots and only usb/ethernet ports on the back).

it is a good mobo, no doubt about it - if I were building now, I'd have a P35 dilemma, as intimated above, 'cept that P35's are early yet, I'm sure they'll get better. prolly depends on how urgent your new build is. hth.

yup, I'm running 4GB on XP-32bit on this mobo, of course I can't use it all in user-mode, but I still get a bump in performance generally, and more ram available specific to my needs (c. 2.8GB).
But, the usual caveat, if you really, really, don't need 4GB - I wouldn't bother.

hth. :)
